Introduction
I'm designing Gravity Commando as the Final Year Project of my Master's Degree at the NFTS. I was inspired by my love for old school shooters and first person puzzlers to design my own crazy, fast-paced FPS. The core mechanic of the game, gravity swapping, has opened to me more challenges and opportunities in design and programming, than any of the games I've made so far.
Gameplay Programming
My background as a programmer allowed me to create Gravity Commando's tight and action packed core gameplay loop. I designed and implemented gameplay mechanics in order to create a fun and responsive gameplay experience that promotes spatial reasoning and quick decision making.
Enemy AI
One of the main challenges of this project was to design an AI system that works in Gravity Commando's bifurcated gravity. My goals were to create a modular customization system that could allow for the construction of more complex and varied behaviors in the future.
White Boxing
As a first step in my games design process, I've white boxed the main combat arenas of the game in Maya for fast iteration and design flexibility. This also allowed for efficiently testing gameplay programming in "gym levels".
